Flu Vaccines at Tandem Health

Influenza vaccines are now available at the Southport Labrador Medical Centre.

Vaccines are available free of charge for:

  • Pregnant woman
  • Patients aged over 65
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • Persons aged 6 months and older with a significant medical condition

Private patients are also welcome to purchase the vaccine from the surgery for a nominal fee.

Influenza is caused by a highly contagious virus and is spread by airborne fluids (sneezing / coughing) or by direct contact with those fluids. The symptoms are much worse than those of the common cold. Influenza symptoms include high fevers or chills, sore throat, stuffy nose, muscle and headaches, weakness and cough. Influenza can lead to serious complications, hence the important of vaccination.

A few important things to remember this flu season

  • Take care of yourself and see your doctor if you become unwell
  • Wash your hands
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing
  • Wipe down / disinfect surfaces regularly
  • Stay home from work if you’re ill to prevent the virus from spreading
  • Have your yearly flu injection
